Estimation & Tendering

Danaos Projects demonstrates how ProjectVIEW ERP simplifies estimation and tendering, improving accuracy and speeding up submissions for construction projects.

The process of construction estimation and tendering is both tedious and very complex. So, let’s see how ProjectVIEW ERP modules can help estimators and planners simplify this process. In addition, we show how our Modules can improve estimation accuracy and execution/submission times, while increasing your chances to win a bid.

In the schematic above, we can see the concept of 5D in construction, where 3D specs link to Duration and Cost. More specifically, the axes of the schematic are:

X: Duration – Y: Cost – Z: Specs in 3D, if for BIM

  1. First, if our specs are in an .xls format, we can use the ProjectVIEW import .xls wizard to insert BoQ Code Items into our software in a well-structured format.
  2. Alternatively, if we have a BIM file (.ifc), we can achieve the same result. In this case, we link ProjectVIEW with the BIM and extract the BoQ Code Items.
  3. Next, the estimation process costs the BoQ Code Items. To do this, the estimator associates the appropriate assembly of Resources (materials, labor, machinery, subcos and general expenses).
  4. This exercise is time consuming and tedious. However, ProjectVIEW eases the process because it suggests the appropriate assembly of resources based on the type of the BoQ Code Item. The estimator can then fine-tune the quantity.
  5. Then, costs come either from the historical database of the Procurement/Purchasing module or from a new Purchase process.
  6. At this stage, the ProjectVIEW Procurement module kicks in. It creates consolidated RFQs, gathers quantities from all similar items and sends them to certified Suppliers for Quotation.
  7. Similarly, Procurement consolidates line-by-line all BoQ Code Items that belong to the same SubCo Package. It then creates another RFQ and sends it to the certified SubCos.
  8. As a result, Estimation and Purchasing work in harmony to find the best prices for the Company’s Bid. For example, they can compare Product vs Materials Costs and vs Subcontractors (time and material).
  9. In the end, the What-if Analysis mechanism of ProjectVIEW Core provides the necessary global insights. Thus, the Tendering Manager can scrutinize numbers and costs while applying the necessary Overheads, Risks and Profit factors.
  10. Finally, the Tendering Manager saves different Bid-versions and decides which one to submit. ProjectVIEW then ‘returns’ all costs to the original .xls file for submission.

In short, with the above flow ProjectVIEW ERP allows fast and accurate Bids. Bids that WIN profitable projects.
