What does the Materials and Production AI Agent do?

The Materials and Production AI Agent supports AI production planning for project manufacturing, fabrication and shipyards, as part of DANAOS ProjectVIEW AI. It is designed to check material availability, production progress and cost against the BoQ and WBS in ProjectVIEW ERP, and to flag shortages, delays and cost deviations before they reach site or delivery. The production manager approves every change to the plan.

Which ProjectVIEW ERP data does it use?

The agent uses the data in the Materials and Production Management module of ProjectVIEW ERP, including the Production module released with v12 for project-based manufacturing.

  • Bills of materials linked to BoQ items and WBS elements
  • Stock, reservations and material deliveries
  • Production orders, work centres and progress
  • Labour and machine time booked to production
  • Production cost against budget

How does it work?

The agent follows the ProjectVIEW AI agent cycle. Applied to materials and production:

  1. Detect: find production orders at risk from missing material, late deliveries or slow progress.
  2. Investigate: check stock, open purchase orders and progress on related WBS elements.
  3. Explain: state which items are at risk, why, and what they hold up downstream.
  4. Recommend: propose a resequencing, a material transfer between projects or an expedite request.
  5. Request approval: send the recommendation to the production or fabrication manager.
  6. Execute: after approval, update production orders or reservations in ProjectVIEW ERP.
  7. Audit: record the risk, the decision and the change.

The agent can also compare production cost and productivity across projects, so lessons from one job inform the next.

What goes in, what comes out and where does a person approve?

Main inputs, outputs and decision points:

Inputs Outputs Human approval point
Bills of materials and stock Shortage list by production order and need date Production manager confirms priorities
Production orders and progress Orders at risk of delay, with causes Production manager approves resequencing
Open purchase orders and deliveries Expedite or transfer recommendations Procurement and stores confirm the action
Production cost and hours Cost and productivity deviations by WBS element Cost controller reviews the forecast impact

How is the agent governed?

The Materials and Production AI Agent works inside ProjectVIEW ERP governance, following the chain Identity → Role → Permission → Data → AI → Action. It sees only the data the user’s role allows and proposes only actions that role could take. AI should operate inside enterprise governance, not around it.

  • Consequential actions always need human approval.
  • Every recommendation, approval and change is recorded for audit.
  • Data stays in the client’s private environment and is not sent to public consumer AI services.

Example: how could it work on a project?

Illustrative example. A fabrication yard is producing steel modules for Project E. Each module has a bill of materials linked to the BoQ and WBS in ProjectVIEW ERP.

The agent detects that two production orders depend on plate that is not yet delivered, while the same grade is reserved but not needed for several weeks on another project.

It explains the risk, recommends a temporary transfer and an expedite request to the supplier, and shows the effect on both projects. The production manager approves the transfer, stores confirm it, and the change is logged.

Who uses it?

The agent is designed for the people who plan and run production:

It applies to project-based manufacturing and shipbuilding and repair, as well as offsite construction and fabrication.

Frequently asked questions

What does AI production planning for project manufacturing add to the ERP?

The ERP holds orders, stock and progress. The agent is designed to read them together, find what is at risk and explain why, so the production manager acts earlier.

Does it change production orders by itself?

No. It recommends changes such as resequencing or material transfers. The production manager approves them before ProjectVIEW ERP is updated.

Is the Production module part of ProjectVIEW ERP?

Yes. ProjectVIEW ERP v12 added a Production module for project-based manufacturing, built on the same BoQ, WBS and Cost Codes structure.
