What are ProjectVIEW AI Agents?

DANAOS ProjectVIEW AI Agents are AI agents for construction ERP and other project-based industries, designed to watch one process each, such as procurement or cost control, on live ProjectVIEW ERP data. They detect deviations, explain them, recommend an action and request human approval before anything is executed. Agents can be configured per client and are part of ProjectVIEW AI, the AI add-on to ProjectVIEW ERP.

What is an AI agent in ProjectVIEW?

An AI agent in ProjectVIEW is a piece of software with a defined job, access to the ERP data that job needs, and a fixed set of actions it may propose. It does not chat for the sake of it. It monitors a process continuously and reports when something needs a decision.

Example: the procurement agent compares a new quotation with the budget rate on the same BoQ item and cost code. If the quotation is above the budget rate, the agent flags it, explains the gap, recommends a next step and asks the procurement officer to approve or reject.

Agents work on the BoQ ↔ WBS ↔ Cost Codes structure of ProjectVIEW ERP. That structure is what lets an agent compare an estimate, a purchase order, a subcontract and an actual cost on the same line.

How does a ProjectVIEW AI agent work?

Every agent follows the same seven-step cycle:

  1. Detect a deviation in its process.
  2. Investigate the related records.
  3. Explain in plain language what is off and why it matters.
  4. Recommend an action.
  5. Request approval from the person whose role owns the decision.
  6. Execute the approved action in the ERP.
  7. Audit: log every step, input and decision.

The technical detail is on how ProjectVIEW AI works.

Which ProjectVIEW AI Agents are available?

There are eight purpose-specific agents, mapped to the ProjectVIEW ERP modules and designed to support the roles that own each decision, in the industries where the process matters most. Agents are being rolled out by module; availability depends on the module and is confirmed per client.

Agent ERP module Main roles Industries
Bidding & Estimation Agent Budget, Estimation & Bidding Cost estimator, bidding manager Construction, shipbuilding & repair, marine & offshore, project-based manufacturing
Cost Control & Forecast Agent Cost Control Cost controller, project manager, C-level All project-based industries
Subcontractor & Certification Agent Subcontractors Management Subcontractors manager, quantity surveyor Construction, marine & offshore, mining & quarrying
Procurement Agent Procurement & Purchasing Procurement officer, project manager All project-based industries
Materials & Production Agent Materials & Production Management Production / fabrication manager Shipbuilding & repair, project-based manufacturing, offsite construction
Machinery & Maintenance Agent Machinery Management Plant & machinery manager Construction, mining & quarrying, marine & offshore
Cash Flow & Finance Agent Accounting & Finance, Payables, Receivables Accounting & financial officer, CFO All project-based industries
Claims & Variations Agent Cost Control, Subcontractors, Receivables Contracts & variations manager, quantity surveyor Construction, marine & offshore, shipbuilding & repair

What does each agent look for?

  • Bidding & Estimation: comparable items and Cost Recipes from past work; unusual assumptions in a new estimate.
  • Cost Control & Forecast: forecast cost at completion, margin erosion, probability of overrun, earned value.
  • Subcontractor & Certification: delayed certifications, retention exposure, subcontractors with high commercial risk.
  • Procurement: quotation comparison, anomalies, prices above budget rates.
  • Materials & Production: material flow and production progress against the WBS.
  • Machinery & Maintenance: abnormal fuel use, idle time, CO₂ per activity.
  • Cash Flow & Finance: best, expected and worst-case cash flow forecasts.
  • Claims & Variations: unapproved variations and the evidence needed for claims.

Each agent is designed to raise weak signals early, before they show up in the month-end report.

What does an agent alert contain?

An agent alert is written for the person who has to decide, not for an analyst. Each alert is designed to contain:

  • What was detected: the deviation, with the project, BoQ item, WBS package and cost code.
  • The evidence: the ERP records the agent used, such as the budget line, the quotation and past rates.
  • The explanation: why the deviation matters, in plain language.
  • The recommendation: the proposed next step and its expected effect on cost or cash.
  • The approval request: who must decide, with the option to approve, reject or ask for more detail.

Do ProjectVIEW AI Agents act on their own?

No. Agents work with human approval. They detect, investigate, explain and recommend without waiting, but every consequential action, such as committing cost, changing a contract value or posting a financial entry, requires approval from the responsible person. Agents follow the same governance chain as users: Identity → Role → Permission → Data → AI → Action.

Agents are configured per client. Thresholds, approval routes, the projects in scope and the roles that receive each alert are set during implementation to match your own processes. AI will not fix broken processes. It will amplify them. That is why configuration starts from your approval workflow, not from the agent.

Can you build your own agents?

Yes. The ProjectVIEW MCP connector lets your teams build their own AI agents and assistants on ProjectVIEW ERP data, using Claude or ChatGPT. MCP is an open standard for connecting AI assistants to business systems. Agents you build through MCP use the same role permissions as the user who runs them. See the ProjectVIEW MCP server.

Frequently asked questions

How many ProjectVIEW AI Agents are there?

There are eight purpose-specific agents, one per core process: bidding and estimation, cost control and forecast, subcontractors and certification, procurement, materials and production, machinery and maintenance, cash flow and finance, and claims and variations. They are being rolled out by module and can be configured per client; ask us which agents are available for your modules.

Do agents need ProjectVIEW ERP?

Agents work best on ProjectVIEW ERP, because they rely on the BoQ ↔ WBS ↔ Cost Codes structure. Data from SAP, Oracle or Primavera P6 can be used once it is mapped to that structure.

Who approves what an agent recommends?

The person whose role owns the decision in the ERP approval workflow, for example the procurement officer for a purchase order or the cost controller for a budget transfer. Every approval is logged.

Can we start with one agent?

Yes. Agents can be configured per client and are being rolled out by module, so you can start with the process where the risk is highest, such as cost control or procurement, and add others as they become available for your modules.
