Remote Site Monitoring

A construction site worker wearing an orange safety vest and helmet remotely pilots a drone over a large open-pit mining or excavation site under a clear blue sky. The expansive landscape shows terraced excavation levels, heavy machinery, and distant industrial activity.

Drones, specifically Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) like quadcopters, can provide full site awareness. They feed office users with images, videos, and geometric data. As a result, remote site monitoring lets teams track construction processes and monitor the actual progress of works. In addition, drones/UAVs provide construction stakeholders with expansive, accurate, and precise spatial data.

Using a Ground Control Point system, drones calibrate GPS coordinates and obtain geometric data. Our ProjectVIEW software then analyses this data to provide insights into Actual vs. Budgeted Progress of works. Next, specialized photogrammetry software processes the data from each flight to generate isometric contour lines, orthophotos, and 3D point clouds.

Furthermore, teams interpret the spatial data to derive lengths, areas, and volumes, and then link it to drawings and budgeted costs. As a result, quantity surveyors can compare ‘Estimated’ to ‘Actual’ values and identify spatial deviations. DANAOS, in cooperation with DRONEPROS, provides products and services for surveying any construction project.

ProjectVIEW ERP v.12 will synchronize site data from drones, providing resource inspection and geometric calculations in real-time. In turn, this ensures better project management through reduced project timelines, accurate site inventories, improved communication, and enhanced safety.
